SUCCESS IS "IN THE BAG"
Blue balloons are strewn over the aisles as shoppers pick out their food items, many of them stocked and organized by ProAct's Matt Morehouse. It's discount day for senior
citizens at Econo Foods in Cannon Falls, and customers fill the aisles.
"Thank you, go have a nice day," says Morehouse, after loading an older woman's
groceries into her car. Heading back inside, the husky bagger and stocker sees another familiar face en route to a 10 percent discount. "Good morning, Matt. How are you? You've got a shadow today?" asks the customer, referring to this tag along writer
following close behind.
"We get a good crowd," says a smiling Morehouse, who shifts frequently from shelving duties to bagging and carryout. Morehouse, who lives out in the country near Cannon Falls, has been a solid fit for the store, which services a 15 mile radius in and around the small town.
Details are a big part of Morehouse's day. When some cans of cat food catch his eye, he quickly checks the date– December 2006, and pulls them from the shelves.
Morehouse's ProAct job developer charted Morehouse's progress. "It's amazing how when he first started, we were on the same level. Now, he's telling me what to do," the job developer said. The grocery worker receives services through ProAct in Red Wing.
