We are thrilled to shine our Talent Spotlight on Trisha, a dedicated employee at TJ Maxx and a longtime member of the ProAct family! Trisha’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of comprehensive support and the rewards of hard work and determination.
A Long History of Support and Success
Trisha has been receiving support from ProAct for over 22 years. For her mother, Diane, ensuring Trisha had opportunities for love, support, education, job training, and opportunities to seek employment in the community was important. Diane is incredibly proud of Trisha’s accomplishments, noting that the kind and hard working staff at ProAct have certainly helped Trisha have a good life.
Over the years, Trisha honed her skills through various job opportunities. She previously worked on ProAct’s production floor, in enclaves doing clerical work, and at locations like the Saint James Hotel.
The Dream Job at TJ Maxx
Three years ago, Trisha landed her current job at TJ Maxx. The employment services team at ProAct helped her, with a special shout out to Brianna for assisting in the application process. Once Trisha applied, she demonstrated immense dedication to ensure she could get a job on her own.
Trisha has now reached her three-year anniversary and loves her work. She finds the job enjoyable and says it is her favorite employment experience yet. She is a dedicated worker and it has shown to not only her employer and coworkers, but to the customers, as well. Her employer has described her work as “awesome” and stated how much they love working with her. Customers that Trisha worked with in the fitting room described her as a pleasant presence and helpful throughout the process of picking the right outfit.
Even more so, Trisha was recognized for her work in contributing to her store receiving the Customer Service Champion of the Month award with an accompanying trophy! The ProAct team couldn’t be more proud of the amazing growth and performance Trisha has shown.
For her own part, Trisha said she is deeply grateful for the support she received up to this point, saying that ProAct has been wonderful throughout the years of working with her.
Independent Living
Trisha’s success extends beyond the workplace. She enjoys living independently in her own apartment. This is supported by ProAct’s Individualized Home Supports (IHS), which staff members like Alana provide.
IHS services help Trisha manage her daily life and thrive in her community:
- Cooking and Shopping: Staff help Trisha improve her cooking skills, learn new recipes, and go shopping. Trisha does a great job prepping for these services, getting out ingredients and utensils, and creating her own shopping lists.
- Appointments and Communication: Staff assist with phone calls and taking her to doctor appointments. They also helped her learn to use the helpful Talk to Text feature for sending details to her ProAct team.
- Overall Well-being: Trisha’s mom is kept informed by the staff while Trisha herself stated that the IHS services make her feel safe and happy.
Trisha believes in the services so much that she wants to get out into the community to tell people about IHS and employment services and how it can help them, too. She feels proud that she is able to work, in part because of the support she receives.
Trisha’s Advice: She would absolutely recommend ProAct to other people because if they see what she is able to do they’ll be able to see how it can help them too.
